Love Hostel Review: A thought-provoking story backed by great performances

Cast: Vikrant Messy, Bobby Deol, and Sanya Malhotra

Director: Shanker Raman

Rating: ***

Platform: ZEE5

Love Hostel has endeavored to demonstrate the devastation and hardships that young couples face in many sections of our country, where love marriage is still regarded as a sin and a notion against “Indian custom,” as weird as it may seem. The main characters in this Shanker Raman film are played by Vikrant Massey (Ahmed/Ashu Shokeen), Sanya Malhotra (Jyoti Dilawar), and Bobby Deol (Dagar), and despite the plot being a touch forced, they all do a terrific job.

The story is centred in rural Haryana and illustrates how the community, politicians, and those in positions of power abuse and promote cold-blooded encounters in order to restore their family’s status in society. All characters have a significant Haryanvi accent to keep true to the script, and the phrases are surely crammed with slang and slurs that match the environment in some manner. Certain moments, though, are devoid of the punch lines that would have heightened the film’s flavor.

If talking about the storyline, then it could have been better in the case of the ending. Moreover, there are some broken links that must have been clear.

Vikrant and Sanya Love Hostel

Vikrant Massey, who portrays Ahmed/Ashu Shokeen in the film, has once again surprised audiences with his acting. The story also demonstrates how politics and power can easily influence a family or person in our society depending on their faith. Vikrant may not be your typical action or thriller hero, but his on-screen personality has always set him apart, and this adds to his already impressive resume.

Sanya Malhotra, on the other hand, has definitely perfected the character. Sanya would not be the same without Jyoti Dilawar, who is extroverted, vibrant, and spontaneous.

Bobby Deol Love Hostel

Another important character in the film is Dagar, a typical goon-like individual on a brutal rampage. The character is a cold-blooded killer who also exemplifies how blind, narrow-minded, and unfriendly to any other religion or culture in society he is.

Overall, it can be your weekend time-pass if you like to watch crime thrillers.
