Prime Video’s six-episode dark comedy, Mammals stars comic-actor James Corden in the serious lead as chef Jamie, along with Melia Kreiling. The narrative revolves around a couple, who are entangled in a web of lies and cheating. With Mammals receiving rave reviews from critics and viewers alike, here are times when James Corden aced the emotional scenes.
Finding the truth: After losing his child, Jamie finds out that his wife Amandine is cheating on him. While he’s still trying to recover from the loss of his child, the truth about his unloyal wife breaks his heart into pieces. As he reads the obscene messages his wife exchanged with his lover, he goes into disbelief and is left numb. Seeing James Corden trying to cope up with this unexpected event in life, leaves viewers emotional too.
Letting it out: In a rather shocking turn of events, when Jamie discovers that Amandine is playing him with multiple mystery men, he feels like a failure. He questions his worth and sobs on his best friend Jeff’s shoulder in the middle of a garden. It is rare to see a man cry his heart out but, the way Corden has pulled it off, it will bring tears to viewers’ eyes too. The bad doesn’t end for Jamie there, as later, when he finds an obscene video of his wife with a third man, his world comes shattering down. The pain, angst, betrayal, confusion and shock is quite evident in Jamie’s eyes. Corden makes the character so believable that you start feeling bad for Jamie and want him to face reality.
The Expose: After letting things pile up, the moment of truth arrives when Jamie gathers courage and finally exposes Amandine in the most unexpected setting. He exposes her infidelity during his dream restaurant’s launch day, leaving the family and guests in utter shock. While Amandine is clueless about handling the unforeseen situation, their respective families are left speechless. Corden aptly showcases the agony, suffering of a husband who’s cheated on by his wife, whom he loves so much. His acting prowess will make you believe that not just comedy, but he can ace any scene that comes his way.
The Confrontation: The day of confrontation finally comes when Jaime finds out the complete truth of his sweetheart Amandine’s adultery. The mystery man Paul is revealed, and it is none other than his best friend Jeff. Jeff and Amandines affair leaves Jamie in pieces, but he gathers courage to confront Amandine and seek answers for her wrongs. Jamie’s outburst and fury are perfectly expressed by Corden with his skills. But, the end is not as simple as viewers may think, things take a U-turn when Amandine reveals why things happened the way they happened, and the reasons will leave viewers’ disturbed.
Directed by Stephanie Laing, and written by two-time Olivier and Tony Award-winning Jez Butterworth, the series also features Colin Morgan and Sally Hawkins in pivotal roles. Mammals is streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
