Social activist Somy Ali is the president and CEO of No More Tears. She says this is her God given purpose in life.
“I live and breathe NMT. This is my God given purpose in life and this is what I was meant to do. You can take all your trauma and throw a pity party or play the victim card. I choose not to do that and help others instead. It’s completely selfish because it helps me heal as well,” said Somy who founded the NGO more than 14 years ago.
Helping people never gets monotonous for her. “No individual that is abused and needs NMT’s services would lead to a feeling of monotony. In fact, I thrive in chaos because I grew up in severe dysfunctionality. So, it’s never boring, but challenging with each new case,” said the former Bollywood actress.
As for her vision for No More Tears, she shared, “Keep doing what we are doing, but at some point I want to open an NMT chapter in India to help victims there as well. We have saved over 35,000 women, children and men in almost 15 years, but I am not done yet.”
